you can't keep this up for long

what's the skinny, baby doll?

miracle fortress is based in montreal, but they make up for it by making wonderful delightful indie music (see what i did there?). they were shortlisted for a polaris prize a few years back, but came up short behind patrick watson. their latest album 'was i the wave' just came out a few weeks ago, and while i wouldn't exactly heap praise on it, spectre is just way too much fun - it's an 80's movie in 4 minutes, all drawn-out synths and drum machines and hoppy lyrics. give it a try, see if it fits.

also, just because i like you so much, here's some wild ones.

i wish this dream comes true

i have NO idea what is going on with this track. i don't know who van mccoy is, and i recognize some daft punk lyrics but i don't know what they are doing in here, and troupe gammage sounds like a travelling french dentistry convention. but i love love love RAC and this is gold and i just don't know why i am surprised by these guys anymore, everything they do makes me happy.

washed out's debut has a release date (july 11) super-sexy cover art (see above), and best of all, an album opener released to the adoring public. this will be the soundtrack of the modern white person, kids. get on board.

that is all.

a post-vacation grab bag

o hai there!

i bailed on reality for a week to go be in a sun-coma, but now i am back and there is music to catch up on. this one's going to be a bit of a grab bag - just whatever's crossed through my ears in the past 4 hours.

producer chi duly played a bit with the ol' time machine, blending early 2000's coldplay and more recent drake to create something that is, hesitantly, greater than the sum of its parts. don't know if i love this yet - i harbour a deep resentment of all things cold and play, but maybe a little production value will redeem them in my heart of hearts. like all good things in life, the album's available for free download here.

holding up thoroughly in the 'don't know how long this one'll last' category is the deans list. my hip-hop game isn't exactly tight these days - too many bearded folk-types gracing my recently added playlist to date - but p'haps this one will help bring me back up to speed. the vocal sample has a way of staying with you. and, oh boy, it's another freebie!

finally, mansions on the moon is a production dream team - benzi and diplo combined (a long time ago, i'll admit it) to cobble together the band's 'paradise falls' mixtape, and it flows beautifully. i'd highly reccommend the deadmau5 and junior boys tracks, but this one in particular has been in the back of my head for a week or so now. it won't go away, and i can't say i want it to.

oh, and btdubs, this one's free too. you love me.
